- ➤ On Nov. 11, the Oxford Planning Commission met to finalize the Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan with a report due for presentation on Dec. 16 so engineers can later estimate costs for grant applications. The meeting also discussed updating the unified development code to offer incentives—such as faster reviews for projects including affordable housing or green infrastructure—to support economic growth. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Alumni of Miami University's Myaamia Heritage Award Program now hold leadership roles in the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma. Nate Poyfair ’20 (elected this summer) is a councilperson on the Business Committee, while Lance Theobald ’10 and Mika Leonard ’06 lead Miami Nation Enterprises as CEO and vice president of operations, and Joshua Sutterfield ’05 MA ’09 (cultural education director) guides the Tribe’s education program. - ➤ The Myaamia Center is sending George Ironstrack and tribal members to France to attend a historic Native American exhibition at the Palace of Versailles that opens Nov. 23. They will also visit the Palace of Fontainebleu to honor the 1725 delegation of chiefs who met with King Louis XV on Nov. 25. Miami University
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Miami University is launching a new World Languages and Cultures major that combines six former programs and begins accepting students this upcoming fall— the major features three specializations and interdisciplinary seminars to prepare graduates for global careers— and was approved by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. - ➤ The Associated Student Government passed resolutions to launch a fitness and wellness series with free classes led by student clubs—responding to concerns over expensive fitness options—and to amend the absence policy for athletic events, while also debating changes to the costly course overload fee. The measures will be shared with university officials for further review—aiming to ease academic challenges for student-athletes and others. The Miami Student
- ➤ More than 250 entries were submitted to the 'Falling for Miami' photo contest that ran Sept. 25 to Oct. 25 — the contest featured photos that captured natural beauty on campus. Winners include Oxford native Julia Rode, whose image of Bishop Woods path won first prize, with Louis Scholer and Maddie Beyl earning second and third prizes. Miami University
- ➤ Miami University students visited Cincinnati area employers, including the Cincinnati Reds, during the Arts in Action: Cincy Spotlight—Career Trek Trip on November 20th to learn about different jobs. Miami University
- ➤ Miami University earned a spot on TIME’s America’s Best Colleges for Future Leaders 2026 list with a top-45 overall ranking — it ranked among the top 20 public schools and as the best in Ohio for the third straight year. Miami University
