COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Talawanda middle and high schools will be connected by the Oxford Area Trail System once Phase V construction is complete; work includes land clearing, drainage structures, and three steel bridges. The project is expected to be substantially finished early in 2027—adding a northern spur to Chestnut and Main streets near a planned Amtrak rail platform. Oxford Free Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Miami University will offer training on the Concur online travel booking tool on Nov. 13 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.—the session will take place in the art museum auditorium and is available remotely via Zoom. Remote attendees must register in advance and in-person participants are advised to plan transportation due to limited parking — an additional session is scheduled for Dec. 11 if needed. - ➤ Miami University is using immersive VR technology to train social work students with lifelike case studies, including a module on elder care where students see interactions between families & healthcare workers. The department received part of a $1.55M grant from the Southern Ohio Behavioral Health Initiative and will expand its VR program into more undergraduate and graduate courses. Miami University
- ➤ Kelli Rushek and Katherine Batchelor—along with five preservice teachers—published an article in the Fall 2025 issue of The Ohio Journal of English Language Arts. The study explains how critical approaches using young adult literature can empower adolescent voices in English language arts classrooms. Miami University
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Local registered dietitian Holly Larson says strong bones need more than calcium — they also require protein, vitamins, and regular strength training to build a healthy collagen base. She advises checking vitamin D levels, limiting salt, and incorporating bone-stimulating activities like jumping to maintain lifelong bone health. Oxford Free Press
