EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Miami University formed a search committee led by Zeb Baker of the Honors College to find a new provost and is working with Storbeck Search (a national firm that held forums in Oxford, Middletown, and Hamilton in September). Interim provost Chris Makaroff was named in April after former provost Elizabeth Mullenix stepped down to return to teaching in the College of Creative Arts. Miami University
- ➤ Miami University received a transformative gift that will help expand the Altman Institute for the Humanities, as announced during the State of the University address on October 15. Bachelor Hall is being renovated to serve as the institute’s new home—providing more opportunities for students. Miami University
- ➤ Patrick Lakeberg, a junior in Biology (2025 Undergraduate Summer Scholar), said his summer research program at Miami helped him gain leadership and independence. He said the experience exceeded his expectations and provided him with valuable hands-on research opportunities. Miami University
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ During the Oct 2 meeting, the Housing Advisory Commission finalized 5223 College Corner Pike as Oxford’s seasonal cold shelter — open December through February — while discussing a pilot permanent supportive housing program for residents. Assistant city manager Jessica Greene introduced a draft ordinance to end housing discrimination based on income, and the commission endorsed it to go before city council on Oct 21. Oxford Free Press
