COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Oxford’s Historic and Architectural Preservation Commission formed a subcommittee on Sept. 10 to review a 70-page draft of updated historic district design guidelines that community development director Sam Perry said haven’t been revised in over 30 years and will go before the city council in December. Planning representative Corey Watt said he might advise the subcommittee to help align the guidelines with local zoning codes.  Oxford Free Press
  • Oxford City Council will apply for a grant on October 1 to fund a solar project at Oxford Seniors and energy upgrades at other city facilities — sustainability coordinator Reena Murphy said panels could cover 60% of the center’s energy needs. If selected, the grant and tax credits will offset much of the $273,257 project cost.  Oxford Free Press

  • Piper McGee found her future employer at a Miami University career fair when she was a student and later returned as a recruiter for fall career fairs — marking a full circle in her career journey.  Miami University
  • Miami University was named one of the top two public institutions for undergraduate teaching in the 2026 U.S. News and World Report rankings and improved by one spot from last year— it also earned strong marks in writing, research, engineering, and entrepreneurship programs.  Miami University
  • Miami University celebrated several developments last week with a new partnership that placed former student Trey LaBounty in a Cincinnati Bengals front office and a naturalization ceremony that explained the process for new citizens. The university also finalized a naming deal for its Cleveland Clinic Health Sciences and Wellness facility and published research on political influence in college choice.  Miami University
