COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Oxford’s Environmental Commission sent three recommendations to the City Council to improve commercial recycling. The ideas include sharing dumpsters among businesses—running a trial program at key locations and a step-by-step plan for apartments, which the council will discuss Sept. 16.  Oxford Free Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • Last Saturday, a rainy afternoon brought many Oxford residents and college students to the annual Oxtoberfest to celebrate German heritage with live music, crafts, and food from local vendors—one booth offering a $9 bratwurst drew long lines. Several attendees said they had a great time and plan to return next year.  The Miami Student

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Oxford Housing Advisory Commission met Thursday to discuss city housing stability—focusing on a cold shelter project, market-rate housing on 47 acres, and long-term shelter options. Assistant City Manager Jessica Greene said the cold shelter, funded by ARPA interest with a $70,000 budget, will be sent to city council for review on Sept. 16 and, if approved, will serve adults from December through February.  Oxford Free Press

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Miami University RedHawks football team lost its second game on Sept. 6 to Rutgers and struggled with penalties and defensive gaps while two receivers each gained over 100 yards. They will play UNLV at home tomorrow — aiming to correct mistakes and build on improvements.  The Miami Student
