- ➤ Wil Haygood from Miami University will share his thoughts in the PBS documentary 'Becoming Thurgood: America's Social Architect', which will show how Thurgood Marshall fought for civil rights and will air Tuesday, Sept. 9 at 10 p.m. He said the film will help people understand the fight for freedom—Haygood is also launching a book on the hardships of Black soldiers. - ➤ During the week of Aug. 25-31, Miami media covered topics including the closure of a tariff loophole, a call for strong writing skills, new roles in artificial intelligence, and a Chick-fil-A opening at Miami University's Armstrong Student Center (as highlighted by ABC News, Forbes, and other outlets). Reports also underscored tributes to football coaching legends at Yager Stadium, a program pairing art with dementia care, advice for college acceptances, and a new crisis text line promoting student mental health. - ➤ Michaela Buck, a senior Journalism and Political Science major, is launching new episodes of the Major Insight podcast this fall to offer students a fresh resource on campus & she plans to expand its reach by hosting panels and interviews & increasing its social media presence. Miami University
- ➤ Lily Sawyer, a Miami student majoring in Psychology and Premedical studies, joined a summer program that lasted ten weeks to learn about medicine by shadowing a surgeon and working in a lab that tests green treatments for mental health issues—she also took on leadership roles to guide new students and build her skills for a future in the field.
