EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Miami University hosts Welcome Weekend events—designed to help first-year and transfer students move in and connect as they start college life. The campus will hold activities from August 21 to August 24, featuring a silent disco, games, a fireworks show, and a convocation to welcome new students. Miami University
- ➤ Last week, the Talawanda School Board met on Aug. 12 at Talawanda High School and discussed budget concerns, a cell phone ban and a new IT role—while Thread Up's executive said her business kept 63.5 tons of textiles out of landfills. Teachers met on Monday to plan lessons and will welcome students tomorrow as most begin classes on Wednesday. Oxford Free Press
- ➤ Ellen Yezierski, a Miami University professor, has been honored with the ACS Award for Achievement in Research today—recognizing her work in high school chemistry teaching. Her research has helped many teachers and 700 will join the VisChem Institutes next year. Miami University
