- ➤ TOPSS held a groundbreaking on July 30 for a new facility that will look like a grocery store and be completed by next March to improve service access. John Buchholz celebrated 50 years at City Hall and the Oxford Community Arts Center will host Ox Chalks The Walks on Aug. 9 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—inviting families to decorate sidewalks with chalk. - ➤ The Oxford Police Department responded to multiple reports involving firearms between July 22 and July 28 — one incident on July 22 led to an informational report and another on July 26 ended with an arrest — and they also handled theft and domestic violence cases while recovering a stolen vehicle and transporting a suicidal woman to the hospital. - ➤ Scientists report that about 22 million pounds of plastic enter the Great Lakes annually — over half flowing into Lake Michigan while nearly none reaches Lake Superior. Oxford resident Dr. Roxanne Ornelas, who has circumnavigated Lakes Superior and Huron with Indigenous Water Protectors, will speak about water protection on Aug. 9 at 1 p.m. at MOON Co-op.
