- ➤ The Council on Aging is urging a county levy increase on the November ballot to boost funding for the Elderly Services Program that helps seniors remain in their homes, citing a 79% growth in the local elderly population and stagnant revenue since 2005. County commissioners will vote by early August to certify the proposal, and a 0.7-mill hike would raise annual revenue from $10.9 million to $20.2 million (property taxes would increase by $24.50 per $100,000) if approved.
