- ➤ Oxford celebrated its first Historic Preservation Day on May 28 at the Oxford Community Arts Center—city council member Mike Smith cut the ribbon to begin the event. - ➤ Jessica Palatka has been named Miami University’s inaugural vice president and chief human resources officer and will begin her new role Aug. 1, bringing extensive experience from the Department of Commerce+ she plans to spend her first 100 days listening to staff and assessing campus challenges. - ➤ Six Miami students received Fulbright grant offers—Melinda Barman in Germany, Charles Ellis in Spain, Cyle Ginsberg in Morocco, Sofia Rebull in Peru, Rachelle Swan in Ghana, and Andrew Whitson in Taiwan—with two others named as alternates. Rising junior Audrey Bird was selected for the Fulbright UK Summer Institutes to study at Scotland’s oldest university and professor Cristina Alcalde became a Fulbright U.S. Scholar after her participation in the India International Education Administrators Program in March.
