- ➤ Miami University released a new MiamiTHRIVE video that explains the strategic planning initiative and key 2025 milestones — including plans for a polytechnic campus and other learning opportunities. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Federal funding cuts by DOGE ended Miami University’s Service+ program that linked students to local nonprofit work and community projects such as Oxford Seniors’ line dancing lessons+ trail maintenance on campus natural areas. The sudden termination left many students without stipends and forced community partners to reduce vital support. Oxford Free Press
- ➤ On May 6, 2024, Miami University students showed a 30-page plan with ideas to make streets safer, including raised crosswalks (set for Walnut Street intersections) and curb extensions. City Manager Doug Elliott (the official who will review the plan) said he will consider the suggestions as he prepares the 2026 budget. Oxford Free Press
- ➤ Oxford City Council approved a plan to develop 16 new homes for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (each home ranging from 400 to 800 square feet) and debated a $2,100 parking fee waiver for the upcoming Wine and Craft Beer Festival as officials discussed how to create a fair waiver system.
