  • Des Fleurs Garden Club will hold a plant sale at Oxford Community Arts Center on May 1 from 8 a.m. to noon, with a quick sale from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. where perennials, natives, herbs, pollinator plants and trees will be sold — a live auction will follow and luncheon seats must be reserved with Marilyn Johnson by April 28.  Oxford Observer
  • Hueston Woods will host free archery classes for the Oxford community at 11 a.m. on April 27 — instructors will help participants learn to use bows and arrows — offering training for all skill levels.  Oxford Observer

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Myaamia Center and Miami University Dining will host the Miicitaawi Myaamia Miicioni–Let’s Eat Myaamia Food event from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday April 30 at Western Dining Commons on Miami's Campus, offering traditional dishes like bison meatballs and smoked turkey corn soup.  Oxford Observer
  • Miami University Symphony Orchestra is ending its season with a campus performance tomorrow at 2 p.m. in Hall Auditorium featuring the live premiere of a new composition by Gabe Hardman—winner of the Miami University Composition Competition—and music by Richard Wagner and Florence Price with free admission for everyone.  Oxford Observer
  • GeoFair, Cincinnati’s largest non-profit gem, mineral, fossil and jewelry show, will open on April 26 at the Butler County Fairground Event Center in Hamilton & runs for two days with hours from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 26 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 27, featuring 'Unusual Fossils & Crystals', over 40 vendors, private collections and hands-on activities for kids.  Oxford Observer

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On April 26 at 1 p.m., a search party will gather at Hueston Woods Nature Center to hunt for dinosaur bones, and participants must bring their car—needed to drive to the designated dig site.  Oxford Observer
  • Miami Environmental Professionals is hosting Earth Fest from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 26 at Oxford’s Uptown Park — the event will offer booths by over 30 local groups, live music, crafts and giveaways to promote sustainability — and activities for all ages.  Oxford Observer

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oxford's Housing Advisory Commission recommended a deal with EmpowerMe Living for an affordable housing project on Hester Road that will offer up to 16 tiny home units for adults with developmental disabilities — a proposal chosen over three others — and the plan now awaits final City Council approval.  Oxford Free Press
  • Officer Brooke Hartwig of Oxford Police will lead a self-defense class in the Havighurst Meeting Room at Oxford Lane Library from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. April 27 to honor Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month—registration is required and closes at 1:30 p.m. April 27.  Oxford Observer

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Coalition for a Healthy Community will hold a medication disposal day tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the TRI Community Center and Oxford’s Walmart parking lot. The event, organized with the support of the City of Oxford Police Department, Oxford Township Police Department, and McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital, will let residents safely dispose of expired or unused over-the-counter medications and vaping devices if the batteries are removed.  Oxford Observer
