- ➤ The Oxford NAACP’s annual Freedom Fund Banquet is set for Saturday, April 26 at Miami University’s Shriver Center and will raise money for student scholarships and branch operations. The event will start with a 30-minute reception at 4:30 p.m. (tickets cost $60) and will include a buffet, award presentations, and a speech by Courtis Fuller (a Cincinnati journalist). CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Between April 7 and April 14, Oxford police responded to multiple incidents including shots fired at Parkview Arms, an arson at a fraternity house, burglary, theft, and cyber crimes such as extortion—no charges have been filed yet. Oxford Free Press
- ➤ Multiple emergency vehicles were on the scene near the Brown Road—North Ridge Drive intersection in Oxford on April 17 at 1 p.m., with the operation led by the Cincinnati FBI Division as Oxford Police confirmed that further details have not been released. Oxford Free Press
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Miami University students will host the free concert titled Music at the Meadow on Saturday, April 19th at 3 p.m. at Meadow Ridge Metropark in Middletown. - ➤ The Department of Spanish and Portuguese and the Center for Career Exploration and Success will host Jeronimo Escudero from Procter and Gamble’s Capitanes Del Futuro program on Tuesday, April 22, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Shriver Center’s Heritage Room at 701 E. Spring St, where people will get career advice and learn about jobs and leadership—ideas that mix language, culture and work. Oxford Observer
- ➤ A Miami University teacher warned that plans to build an arena and corporate hotel on Cook Field amid a budget crisis will cost over $200 million and add $6 to $13 million a year in debt payments—threatening funds for classrooms and a cherished open space. - ➤ The Talawanda Alumni Hall of Achievement will host its Promise Scholarship Trivia Night on April 26 from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Greater Oxford Group – Keller Williams Seven Fields in Oxford, serving Neal’s Famous BBQ and Chubby Bunny cupcakes in the first hour with trivia starting at 7 p.m.–attendees can bid at a silent auction, purchase $50 tickets, or reserve tables to support scholarships for Talawanda seniors.
