  • Evan Kennel, known as Cheese, begins his first season as junior varsity head coach while starting his fifth season with Talawanda’s baseball program this spring; he also teaches sixth-grade math at Talawanda Middle School — a role that underscores his lifelong commitment and personal journey in baseball.  Oxford Free Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Raymond Manes, who served at Miami University’s Luxembourg campus (over 20 years), will step down as executive director on June 30. His departure marks the end of a long era at the institution.  Miami University
  • Scott Davie, principal and softball coach at Talawanda High, starts his day at 5:30 a.m. organizing schoolwide events for over 1,000 students and coaching his team in the Southwestern Buckeye League this spring (he remains dedicated to building lasting connections on and off the field).  Oxford Free Press
  • Miami University has opened a new DNA sequencer, the PacBio Vega Benchtop System, that students Lyla Vivian and Katarina Teasdale are using for research on cataract formation and lens proteins.   • Miami Men’s Basketball Coach Travis Steele will join the Crawfords at a free M.O.V.E. Bootcamp on Saturday, Apr. 11 (10 to 11 a.m.) at Lewis Place; the event will also distribute a special Crawford Collection T-shirt to honor the RedHawks' 31-0 regular season.  Miami University

  • Nolan Hodgson, the top senior vaulter from Talawanda High who vaulted (13 ft 6 in) this past indoor season, will try to set a new personal record today at the Coaches Classic meet at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy.  Oxford Free Press
  • Andy Page, a junior at Talawanda High, balances his schedule as a varsity tennis player and Miami Youth Hockey goaltender while aiming for sectional tennis success and a national championship in hockey (according to coaches).  Oxford Free Press
