CRIME NEWS
- ➤ While overall crime dropped during Miami University's spring break, Oxford Police responded to a vandalism incident at Leonard Howell Park on March 24—spray paint caused over $500 in damage—and to an attempted vehicle theft at 5720 College Corner Pike on March 29. Oxford Free Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Talawanda School District contacted law enforcement after board member Dawn King's account allegedly accessed private student information starting December 8 — the district changed calendar privacy settings and began a cybersecurity investigation to decide on further action. Oxford Free Press
- ➤ Daniel Martin and Kirsten Osteboe were elected as student leaders over spring break after winning by an 83-point margin over their rivals. They will begin their term in May and plan to launch the RedHawk Day of Service—connecting campus and community. The Miami Student
- ➤ At Miami University's Associated Student Government meeting on April 1, student concerns regarding the placement of Plan B in a vending machine, an inaccessible crosswalk near the Farmer School of Business and Dorsey Hall, and funding for spring break trips were debated. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Chad Smith, an Oxford resident and Deputy Director of Butler County MetroParks, will begin his role as the new Parks and Recreation Director on May 5. City Manager Doug Elliott said Smith’s financial skills and hands-on experience will aid in planned facility updates — including a skatepark and a TRI Community Center expansion — that aim to enhance local amenities.
