- ➤ On April 3, the Oxford Free Press won nine awards at the Ohio News Media Association’s Osman C. Hooper Competition — marking its first year as eligible. Founding Editor Sean Scott, designer Macey Chamberlin and intern Taylor Stumbaugh were recognized for their work in reporting and design. Oxford Free Press
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lane Library will host the Maker Social Club—an event for adults to use the Artist’s Makerspace to create art and share ideas. The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. on April 14 and will offer refreshments. Oxford Observer
- ➤ Miami University honored chemistry professor Dominik Konkolewicz—appointed as John W. Steube Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry—and writing professor Elizabeth Wardle, who leads the Howe Center for Writing Excellence, with the title of University Distinguished Professor. The honor comes with an annual stipend for research and work and shows their excellence in teaching and leadership. Miami University
- ➤ Flagg Taylor was approved on April 3rd as the inaugural director of Miami’s Center for Civics, Culture, and Society — a new center established with a $4 million state grant to enhance civic education. He plans to develop an interdisciplinary program that brings together students and faculty from across campus. Miami University
- ➤ Miami University lost its $500,000 National Endowment for the Humanities Challenge Grant for renovating Bachelor Hall into a Humanities Hub after government efficiency demands led to cuts. Tim Malley, director of the Humanities Center, said the university is exploring appeal options as it assesses how the two-year project (including a TV studio and multifunctional teaching space) will be affected. - ➤ Miami University will host a lecture on forests responding to wildfires and climate change at Pearson Hall on April 9 at 7 p.m.—the free event lasts one hour, ends with a reception and will be live streamed by the Hefner Museum. Oxford Observer
- ➤ The Farmer School of Business will host a supply chain lecture on April 14th from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Taylor Auditorium where Miami alumnus and current Ernst & Young employee Kevin Koval will speak — current FSB students, faculty and alumni are encouraged to attend as the event is open to all. - ➤ Oxford residents will hold a HANDS OFF! rally on April 6 in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Park — and Oxford Memorial Park from noon to 2 p.m. to protest funding cuts and threats to democracy. The rally will include speakers, a resource table, and a sign-making station while updates on weather-related changes will be posted online. Oxford Observer

- ➤ Super Bowl champion A.J. Brown will host a free mental health Q&A from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. on April 7 in the Armstrong Pavilion at 550 E Spring St.—doors open at 7:30 p.m. and tickets must be purchased online due to limited availability. Oxford Observer
