COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Talawanda School District will host a community forum on how the state budget affects local schools at Talawanda High School’s Performing Arts Center from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 24—this event is co-sponsored by the Oxford League of Women Voters and will explain the potential impact of funding changes on school finances.  Oxford Free Press
  • Hueston Woods Nature Center will host a raptor bird event for children from 3 to 4 p.m. on March 29—each child must be accompanied by an adult.  Oxford Observer
  • Relay for Life of Oxford is hosting its 12th Bowling for Cancer fundraiser today from 5 to 9 p.m. at Oxford Lanes—participants pay a $5 cover fee and can join in activities like raffle baskets, split the pot, spin the prize wheel, face painting and bowling, with food and drinks available—with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.  Oxford Observer
  • Oxford Lane Library will host a spring break scavenger hunt for children (11 and under) from March 29 to April 6 at the library, and visitors can drop by anytime to complete the hunt and earn a prize. No registration is required, and the event aligns with Talawanda School District’s spring break.  Oxford Observer

  • Jeff Berding, President and co-CEO of FC Cincinnati, will serve as commencement speaker at Miami University's spring ceremony. He spent over 19 years as an executive with the Cincinnati Bengals — experience he will share with graduates.  Miami University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Butler County Auditor Nancy Nix will host a tax forum in Hamilton on March 31 to discuss potential changes to Ohio property tax laws—held at 6 p.m. on the first floor of the Government Services Center at 315 High St.—as Butler County legislators including Sen. George Lang are set to attend and answer questions.  Oxford Observer
  • Oxford City Council approved ordinances on March 18 allowing staff to use appropriations to acquire easements on two properties for Phase Five of the Oxford Area Trail System running from Talawanda Middle School to Talawanda High School—easements valued at $78,179 and $54,999 help keep the project on track to meet a $3 million grant funding deadline while negotiations continue with the property owners.  Oxford Free Press
