COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Oxford Bee Festival will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 12 in uptown Oxford. The event offers live music with two bands (Bee! The Band from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and King Bee and The Stingers from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.), food trucks with honey-themed menus, art installations with a raffle, and a kids' corner with games.  Oxford Observer
  • Oxford Seniors will host a March for Meals walk on March 19 at 2:30 p.m. to raise funds and awareness for the Meals on Wheels program at the Dewitt Cabin Trail at 4830 Trenton Oxford Road — participants will complete a two-mile walk with donations benefiting the organization’s food program.  Oxford Observer

CRIME NEWS

  • Between March 3 and March 10, Oxford police responded to 13 incidents including a domestic dispute on S College Ave that led to an arrest for strangulation and domestic violence, a report of a missing Ring camera on S Elm St, a trespassing summons on S Locust St, a shoplifting call from a business on College Corner Pike, and cases of underage drinking and intoxication involving an 18-year-old driver on S Campus Ave and a minor with a fake ID on S Main St—officers responded to each incident promptly.  The Miami Student

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bar 1868 will host the Miami Comedic Relief Comedy Show on March 19 at 9 p.m. as an open mic event that requires tickets purchased at the door (admission is $2 for those 21 and up and $5 for those under 21) at its uptown location on 13 W High St.  Oxford Observer

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Miami University's waste hauling partner Rumpke collects campus recyclables and sends them to its Cincinnati facility—there the items are sorted and contaminated ones are sent to the landfill at a cost of about $1.5 million a year. Nearly 90% of the sorted products are sold to local businesses within a 250-mile radius, supporting more than 3,100 businesses and over 98,000 jobs in the area.  Miami University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Oxford's Housing Advisory Commission will look at four proposals for affordable homes on city land off Hester Road after earlier plans fell through. The group also discussed a grant that may bring up to $250,000 to help tenants — the plan will go to City Council for approval.  Oxford Free Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Miami University’s Tekeia Howard leads a team of 14 to raise funds and spread word about heart health with the Go Red for Women campaign — a project to honor her mother who died of a heart attack three years ago. The team will host events like Go Red for Oxford on April 4 as they work toward a $70,000 goal.  Miami University
  • Miami Outdoor Pursuits Center will host a wellness hike at Hocking Hills State Park on Sunday, March 16 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Students ride to the event to join a guided tour, enjoy a picnic lunch and do wellness exercises such as mindful walking, stretching and breathing exercises — tickets cost $25 per person.  Oxford Observer
