EDUCATION NEWS

  • Miami University art department chair Amanda Alexander was honored with the National Edwin Ziegfeld Award from USSEA for her art education work across four continents. She will receive the award on March 6 in Chicago and stressed her commitment to local arts (notably in Oxford, Hamilton, and Cincinnati).  Miami University
  • Weihao Chen became Miami University’s first engineering doctoral graduate in January as he completed an 11-year journey from enrollment to finishing rigorous research. He balanced demanding experiments (while caring for his 1½-year-old son) and will join Imagen Bioworks as a founding research scientist.  Miami University

SPORTS NEWS

  • Talawanda High School’s girls softball team is shifting from SWOC to the more competitive SWBL this season — with its official doubleheader opener set in Arcanum on March 21 and a home-and-home series against Ross on April 8 and 10.  Oxford Free Press
  • After winning the SWOC last season, Talawanda boys tennis will join the larger SWBL this spring, with their season opener scheduled for April 7 at home against Harrison High. The team will rely on its close-knit spirit and hold a fun post-match pizza contest.  Oxford Free Press
  • Talawanda baseball will leave the Southwest Ohio Conference to join the 13-team Southwestern Buckeye League as it rebuilds its roster; the Brave will open their 2026 schedule on March 28 at home against the Eaton Eagles and begin league play at Ross on April 8 (coach Matt Lykins leads the team).  Oxford Free Press
  • Talawanda track teams are preparing for a new season in the Southwestern Buckeye League and Division II this spring. Coach Brad Mills said the team will kick off on March 28 at Harrison with returning leaders Abra Mills, Nolan Hodgson and Tad Polly ready to fill gaps left by graduates.  Oxford Free Press
